Pulau Kembang: The Island of Monkeys

Pulau Kembang is one of the nearest tourism site from Banjarmasin City, located on tourism village of Kuin. There are some alternatives you can take to the island; using klotok, or by motorcycle. If you choose to take klotok, you can start from Siring, The Great Mosque of Sabilal. The charge more or less Rp. 150.000,- and we can take 20 people, but if you take land route (better to take motocycle) you can lay over on Kuin Harbor, from there, you can take a boat which take a charge Rp. 130.000,-. All prices are included Floating Market Package.

Take a walk around this island, you can see hundreds of monkey and their activity, such as; feeding the baby, family life, fighting, and so many annoying monkey.
So you have to take off your accessories from your body, just in case they give you a strange welcome by taking away your things.

Diamond Digging at Cempaka & Martapura

Cempaka is a small village, located 10 km from Banjarbaru, 45 minutes from Banjarmasin. It is an old site of traditional diamond digging using very simple equipment.

The digging is a collective work by a group, usually consisting of one family and its close relatives.

In 1985 a large raw diamond of 116.7 carats was found in a hole of 15 meters deep.

Martapura is the center of diamond and precious stones polishing; it is also the center of diamond marketing. The town is 40 km from Banjarmasin.

The polishing work uses traditional as well as modern equipment.

Martapura Plaza is the center of diamond and jewelry marketing. Stone-craft of various origins and forms are easily found in the markets of Martapura.

Pieces of jewelry having with a large price range, start from as little as Rp.500,- up to millions of rupiahs.

Banjarmasin: Floating Market

Banjarmasin or Bandjarmasin, the capital city of Kalimantan Selatan, located on a delta island near the junction of the Martapura and Barito rivers.
Banjarmasin also known as a city of thousand rivers. The culture of its society is influenced by rivers. You can see many activities, if you take a tour by using klotok, done in the river side.

There is a famous tourism site in Banjarmasin, Muara Kuin Floating Market. It is one kind of tradding interaction patern by people who lived along the river side. The trader and buyer conduct the transaction on boats called jukung, a tradisional transportation equipment used by Banjarmasin people. The trades activity usually begin in the morning untill nine a.m.
